Feb 14th "Valentine" eagle
The one thing I like most about my job is that isn't never the same when you work with animals. 4pm I got a call of an injured eagle, I rounded up the crew and headed out. I was not prepared for what I saw. one of the saddest sights, this poor eagle had most likely been shot in the chest, face and back. The photos you see here are the "good" ones. He was a smaller eagle and had not given up fight, we stabilized him and the next day transfered him to a eagle rehab center. Unfortunately the story dosent end well for this guy. He was put down this morning, due to the amount of injuries and infections he had. We tried....
Feb 15 The very next day, another eagle call this time electrocution. This big girl hit at least 2 out of 4 wires near our grocery store. she had a burn on her wing and her right eye. She was also transferred to Anchorage. No word yet, wait and hope. Both of this birds were not expected but great learning and teaching opportunities for the new staff I supervise. It was also by far the Largest and feistiest eagle I have ever worked with 13 pounds!
The week ended with Marla's birthday weekend at Lost lake Cabin. Beautiful snowshoe up to the cain in fresh snow. Another great trip with our closest friends.
me, Marla, Drew, Matt (visiting from MA) and Sean
Feb18th Woke up the the "old Camp Robber" Gray Jay at the cabin.
